The Tenets of True Contentment!
We often tie Contentment with whether we are able to see the glass as half full or empty. Are you able to make a situation better by the amount that you choose to see? Do you force yourself to focus on equating more being in the glass than not? People associate being a Pessimist with examining that glass from an empty stand point. The assumption is one going through life focusing on what they do not have over what they do.
Valid arguments indeed, but do they really convey the totality of Contentment? On this last day of 2025, I challenge us to consider the bountifulness in being contented. The Word of God says in, Philippians 4:11-12, “I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.” Contentment is an inner-sufficiency. It is a gift given by God by maintaining the right perspective.
It is not so much about the amount in the glass; rather it is being afforded the glass! That glass speaks to the provision of God- whether it is half full or empty. It speaks to how He provides and sustains. The way we obtain great gains, 1 Timothy 6:6 speaks of having both Godliness & Contentment. Not going through life with entitlement, but gratefulness. Humbled by a glass that at one point you did not have. A glass that shows that He had you in mind, as a Good Father in our lives!
There is an inner-satisfactoriness that is supplanted by God. It has a beautiful opportunity to blossom by how we choose to view life. There is a passage of scripture that took my breath and helps to bring this point to a great resolve. Psalm 131:1-2 says, “O Lord, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes haughty; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me. But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother.” It is the act of learning to be content in the makings of life. It is not absent of celebration or sorrow. It culminates both, but is defined by neither.
Ebbs and flows are a part of our journey. As we mature in Christ, we find the significance in remaining steady in the course. Those storms are coming; yet His Truth still remains. Contentment can truly be seen as a glorious skill set, because it takes the attention off of circumstances to be right and keeps are gaze on God to forever be True and Sustaining!
We often wait in exhilaration to see the next year, as we should! Just do not allow your thoughts of 2025 not to be filled with what those memorial stones built in that year that will carry you through 2026. Here I go with another challenge. LOL. Let’s not just make 2026 about New Goals. Improve and Master Character traits that exude the disposition of your Lord & Savior!
Remember, great gain awaits you when you grow through life correctly. No one writes a better story for your life than God. May we never be guilty of closing the book before the story ends. Chapter 2025 may have seemed like there was no way for the story to evolve, but I can assure you, His Ways to turn it around far exceed our understanding! If He said we are going to the other side, we do not want to miss the opportunity to get there with are hands held up, in a posture of worship!
