Give Me the Ball: We want the Pressure on the Field, but not on the Battleground for Heaven’s Win!
The game is in the final quarter, with only 3 seconds to go. Your team is down by 5 points. The quarterback calls a play that you have actually run in your head hundreds of times, because you excepted the pressure of having the ball in your hands, when the game is on the line. You were not factoring not getting in the end zone. You did not harp on what the fans may think if you did not make the play. Your mind was not even on the opposition and what they would do to prevent you from accomplishing in real life, what you have methodically planned for years!
Overall, Coaches do not spend a lot of time on defending whether the pressure is warranted or not. They understand the level of pressure that comes with pursuing a Win. Athletes push their mental stamina to marks that exceed doubt and trepidation. They understand that when their name is called and it is time to execute a winning play- apprehension and fear are not great accompaniments in that moment.
The Pursuit of a Win in Athletics points to the voluntary sign up for pressure. Folks will work harder both physically and mentally to accomplish their goal and stand in Victory. How much more should that mindset be when it concerns Heaven? How much harder should we go? Is the pressure expected when on the Battlefield for the Lord?
The pressure concerning Heavenly Victories comes with weight, but it does not stop there. He also places Grace in our regimen to support the necessary conditioning to have our name called, to make the play. The intrinsic value of the preparation of God is bountiful! It is an overflow of perseverance and faith. It is a mindset that is affixed on what He said, more than the opposition before you.
Just as the opponent is not going to allow you to walk into the end zone! Those 3 seconds will be met with a pressure that is meant to pummel you! It is meant to prevent you from doing what He said was possible. There are moments where they will mic up football players. That opponent talk can be brutal, but it never carries the same impact as what the players told themselves who made it into the end zone!
The Battleground for Heaven requires a Surrender, Speech, and Work Ethic that pushes you beyond you. It is the catalyst to us having to depend on God to fully execute our desires. There is something to be said about not shying away from pressure. Do you speak like a Victor or Victim when that pressure ferociously comes? It is with the territory of finishing strong. The Adversary and his Imps will most certainly be on the line, but have you executed in your head what you will victoriously walk out in real life to get to the end zone to Win?
Not only are diamonds and innovation met with pressure to produce, so is our character and resiliency. Pressure truly shows what we are made of. Just as that player will feel the hit of the opposer, Believers will experience the blow of being peculiar and having a different appetite from the world.
As we study the playbook of living as a Victor- the Bible profoundly speaks about the need both for spiritual and mental toughness. “You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” -Isaiah 26:3 In Matthew 19:26 it reads, “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, with men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”
“And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.” -Romans 5:3-4 Pressure is gifted to us, as Believers to make us more like the Image of Christ. How will they know that we have been with Him when we cross that end zone? The Victory will not be just about you or the team- He will get the Glory and what you have been endowed with to finish strong will more than prepare you for that next moment of pressure!
